Does anyone know when they plan to release the DLC packs for Mortal Kombat?

I haven't been able to confirm with news sources, but a rumor states the first will be out sometime in May. The same rumor claims that further DLC will be released periodically; once a month with a relatively major update (such as all new characters, etc) . It seems like the logical step, but its validity is unconfirmed at the moment. Netherrealm will also apparently make DLC as long as people are buying it.
A different rumor states that Ed Boon (the creative director) wants the DLC to be free. However, at worst each will cost approximately $5 at the most.
